The feed check valve is a crucial component of a steam boiler system. Its primary role is to regulate and control the flow of water from the feed pump into the boiler and to prevent backflow of steam or water in case of pump failure. What Is a Feed Check Valve?
A feed check valve is a non-return type valve used specifically in boiler systems. It allows water to flow in one direction—from the feed pump to the boiler—and stops reverse flow if the pump shuts down. This prevents boiler pressure from affecting the feed line.
How It Works
When the boiler feed pump is active, the pressure forces the valve open, allowing water to enter the boiler. If the pump stops, the valve disc moves back to its seat, sealing the line and preventing steam or hot water from flowing backward. This check mechanism is either spring-loaded or gravity-based, depending on the system design.
